Methylene phosphonates of oxyalkylated polyalkylene polyamines having at least three nitrogen atoms wherein there are nitrogen-bonded methylene phosphonate units of the formula --CH.sub.2 PO(OM).sub.2. These compounds are used as scale inhibitors, chelating agents, etc.
