ABSTRACT:
An adjustable grading system10comprises a frame12, a plurality of elongated bars14retained at opposite ends within the frame12and moveable along the frame, and a spreading device16. The spreading device16is provided with a plurality of recesses18each for receiving a bar14. Adjacent recesses18are spaced apart by a pre-determined spacing distance D and separated by a tooth20. The spreading device16includes first and second combs40and42each of which are pivotally coupled to link bars46and48. The pivot connection allows the spreading device16to be manipulated so that the distance between the combs40and42can be varied while maintaining them parallel to each other. A group of bars14can be spaced by the spacing distance D by orientating the device16so that the combs40and42extend diagonally across the group of bars14at an angle so that their respective teeth20are disposed between adjacent bars14. The combs are then pushed onto the bars14so that individual bars are guided into respective recesses. By manipulating the device16so that the combs40and42lie substantially transversely to the bars14, the bars14are spaced by the spacing distance D.
