ABSTRACT:
A back-illuminated image sensor has a converting layer21, charge collecting portions24, and suppressing regions23and29. The converting layer21for converting an incident beam into signal charges is formed on one side of an incident face8on which an incident beam is irradiated. The converting layer21is provided for each of pixels arranged in two dimensions. The charge collecting portions24for collecting signal charges generated in the converting layer21extends from the converting layer21to a surface22opposite to the incident face8. The suppressing regions23and29for suppressing the flow of the signal charges from the converting layer21to peripheral circuits26is formed between the converting layer21and the peripheral circuits26.
