ABSTRACT:
In the process of preparing acetoxyhexenoic acids from butadiene, acetic acid and acetic anhydride, selectivity is improved by converting the acetoxyhexenoic acids to .gamma.-vinyl-.gamma.-butyrolactone before isolation. Copper and platinum are useful catalysts in the conversion.
