A magnetic coil32for an electrical machine is constructed from two sub-conductors34A,34B, each in the form of laminae of conducting material such as copper sheet, coated with an insulating material. At one end of the coil, the sub-conductors extend by different distances, to provide space at39for a transposition of the sub-conductors.
