ABSTRACT:
An inflator10of a vehicle occupant protection system, for example, contains an elongated housing12having a first end14and a second16. The gas generator10includes a sealed pressurized gas supply or gas tank18in fluid communication with the first end14upon inflator10operation. A first seal36seals the first end14prior to gas generator10operation. A notched support member56is wedged within the housing12and fixes the first seal36against a sealed opening24of the gas tank18, thereby preventing fluid flow during gas generator10inactivity. Upon gas generator10activation, the support member56is fractured by a force produced by an initiator68thereby releasing pressurized gas into the first end14and through the housing12.
