ABSTRACT:
A portable electronic device comprisinga user input device capable of adopting at least three pre-determined positions, each of which enables an associated function to be actuated,a processor for receiving inputs from the user input device and altering the operating state of the portable electronic device accordingly,wherein the user input device is operable in at least a menu-navigational mode and a text-editing mode, at least one of the pre-determined positions of the user input device being associated with both a menu-navigational function and a text-editing function.
