ABSTRACT:
A process for the monomethylation of nitrogenous heterocycles having at least one nitrogen atom bonded to a hydrogen atom by reacting the nitrogenous heterocycle with dimethyl carbonate at a temperature of between 100° and 200° C. and a pressure of between 0.93×105Pa and 1.07×105Pa while methanol produced during the reaction is distilled off as it is formed.
