aP2 inhibiting compounds are provided having the formulawherein R1, R2, R3, R4, X—Z andare as described herein.A method is also provided for treating diabetes and related diseases, especially Type II diabetes, employing such aP2 inhibitor or a combination of such aP2 inhibitor and another antidiabetic agent such as metformin, glyburide, troglitazone and/or insulin.
