ABSTRACT:
An electrophotographic photosensitive member having a conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer thereon. The photosensitive layer contains a compound represented by the following formula (1): ##STR1## wherein Ar.sub.1 and Ar.sub.2 are the same or different and are each a substituted or unsubstituted bivalent carbocyclic aromatic group or a substituted or unsubstituted bivalent heterocyclic aromatic group; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aralkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group; and A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 are each a coupler residue having a phenolic hydroxyl group, wherein A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 are the same or different.
