ABSTRACT:
A method for making a punched headliner20adapted to be installed in a motor vehicle is provided. The method includes placing a flange element32within a punch tool12, the punch tool12comprising a punching component14and a mating component16. The flange element32is placed abutting the mating component16. A headliner blank18is placed within the punch tool12between the punching component14and the flange element32. A punching edge22, positioned on the punching component14, is moved towards the mating component16. The headliner blank18is thereby pressed between the punching edge22and the flange element32. The punching edge22is pressed into contact with the flange element32such that a shearing edge54is formed on the headliner blank18and a waste component46is separated from the headliner blank18.
