ABSTRACT:
A shaft sealing apparatus is provided which can easily be assembled and arranged to prevent leakage of a dope from an acetylator or the like system. A screw sleeve having a spiral groove provided in the outer side thereof is mounted on rotary shaft adjacent to a location where the rotary shaft extends through a housing. As the screw sleeve rotates together with the rotary shaft, it can return back the dope into the housing thus providing a sealing effect. The screw sleeve includes six segments fabricated by separating circumferentially into two and axially into three. The six segments are jointed together to assemble a generally cylindrical structure on the rotary shaft. The assembling process can be conducted from two radial directions on the rotary shaft between the housing and each bearing unit supporting the rotary shaft without disassembling the bearing units.
