ABSTRACT:
A substrate for forming a target substance detecting device includes a supporting member, an underlying layer disposed on a surface of the supporting member, and a metal pattern layer, disposed on a surface of the underlying layer, for being bound to a target substance trapping substance capable of trapping a target substance in a specimen solution at least containing water as a liquid medium to detect the target substance by utilizing plasmon resonance. The underlying layer has a refractive index nb satisfying the following relationship:in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?0.90 na≦nb≦1.05 na,in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein na represents a refractive index of water.
