ABSTRACT:
The delay demodulation device1comprises an input waveguide2which receives DQPSK signals; a Y-branch waveguide3which splits the light waveguide2; a first Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI)4; and a second Mach-Zehnder interferometer5. Both ends of the arm-waveguides8, 9of the MZI4and the both ends of the arm-waveguides12, 13of the MZI5are bent toward the center portion of the planar lightwave circuit (PLC)1A. Thereby, the length of the arm-waveguides8, 9of the MZI4and the length of the arm-waveguides of the MZI5are shortened in the Z-direction. And, the length of the input couplers6, 10and the output couplers7, 11of the MZIs4, 5are shortened in the Z-direction. Therefore, the area covered by the MZIs4, 5can be made smaller.
