A method of filling a drying system24with product comprises providing a washing unit22, and a drier or driers26a,26barranged such that one at a time the driers26a,26breceive product48discharged from the output of the washing unit22. The washing unit22is configured to receive product48which is continuously weighed104as it is delivered to the washing unit. The product is washed in the washing unit22by being passed through the washing unit at a substantially constant speed, allowing the arrival time at the drier26a,26bto be predicted. The weight of product loaded into the drier is regulated by controlling the flow of product into the drier.
