ABSTRACT:
A lubrication arrangement for interlocking gears2, 3is configured by a housing1which incorporates sections1a,1bof a snail cross-section. Thus, rotating gears2, 3are positioned to generate a centrifugal pumping effect between those gears2, 3and the housing sections1a,1bwhich drives scavenged oil flow into a volute11formed by the opposing surface of the housing1a,1b. The scavenged oil is driven in the direction13towards an off-take12configured such that there is a minimum available cross-sectional area14between the housing at the intermeshing of the gears2, 3at an interlocking location4. In such circumstances the scavenged oil is driven at relatively high speed through the off-take12. Such relatively high speed scavenged oil15can be used for displacement scavenging in other parts of an engine or machine where problems exist with oil residence.
