ABSTRACT:

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Chrysanthemum plant, botanically known as
Dendranthema grandiflora
and hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name Yoingrid.
The new cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the Inventor in Salinas, Calif. and Alva, Fla. The objective of the breeding program is to create new garden-type Chrysanthemum cultivars having inflorescences with desirable inflorescence forms, attractive floret colors and good garden performance.
The new cultivar originated from a cross made by the Inventor in Salinas, Calif., in February, 1994, of the
Dendranthema grandiflora
cultivar Tolima, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 6,988, as the female, or seed, parent with an unidentified proprietary seedling selection as the male, or pollen, parent.
The cultivar Yoingrid was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in a controlled environment in Alva, Fla. in November, 1995. The selection of this plant was based on its desirable inflorescence form, attractive ray floret color and excellent garden performance.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar by terminal cuttings taken in a controlled environment in Alva, Fla. has shown that the unique features of this new Chrysanthemum are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The cultivar Yoingrid has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, daylength and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Yoingrid’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Yoingrid’ as a new and distinct cultivar:
1. Uniformly mounded plant habit.
2. Freely branching, dense, full plants.
3. Uniform flowering.
4. Decorative-type inflorescences that are about 5.3 cm in diameter.
5. Attractive white ray florets that maintain their immature light greenish yellow coloration giving a fresh appearance to the inflorescences.
6. Numerous inflorescences per plant.
7. Excellent garden performance.
Compared to plants of the parent cultivar, Tolima, plants of the new Chrysanthemum are more uniformly mounded, have smaller inflorescences and flower about one week later under natural season photoperiodic conditions.
The new Chrysanthemum is similar to the Chrysanthemum cultivar Linda, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 8,294. However in side-by-side comparisons under commercial practice, plants of the new Chrysanthemum differ from plants of the cultivar Linda in the following characteristics:
1. Plants of the new Chrysanthemum have larger and darker green leaves than plants of the cultivar Linda.
2. Plants of the new Chrysanthemum have larger inflorescences and are more freely flowering than plants of the cultivar Linda.
3. Plants of the new Chrysanthemum flower about one week later than plants of the cultivar Linda under natural season photoperiodic conditions.
