ABSTRACT:
A method for activating a cobalt hydrogenation catalyst in which the catalyst is contacted with a flow of hydrogen for a time sufficient for activation at an activation temperature below 250.degree. C and at an activation pressure above 1000 psig. The activated catalyst is used in hydrogenating a chemical compound containing at least one nitrile group to form an amine.
