ABSTRACT:
Compounds containing carboxylic acid fluoride or chloride groups react with sulfur trioxide at temperatures between -30.degree. to about 100.degree. C to give carbonyl fluoro- or chlorosulfates. Preferred reactants are polyfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkenyl carbacyl acid fluorides. The carbacyl halosulfates are useful as cationic polymerization catalysts and as chemical intermediates.
