ABSTRACT:
An electro-optical reader reads indicia having parts of different light reflectivity within a limited working range of distances relative to the reader. The reader includes a laser for emitting a laser beam, a photosensor for detecting light over a field of view and generating an analog signal indicative of the indicium being read, and a scanning motor for scanning the laser beam and/or the field of view. A digitizer for digitizing the analog signal, a laser drive for energizing the laser, and a motor drive for activating the motor are all mounted on a single chip integrated circuit mounted within the reader.
