ABSTRACT:
A shear device for splitting hot metallic bars or billets into smaller forms on a continuous basis, as the metallic bars continuously exit from a mill. The shear device comprises two mechanical complexes. The first mechanical complex is a circular shear for generating shearing stresses in the metallic bar by displacing portions of the metallic bar with respect to adjacent portions thereof, and the second mechanical complex wedges and shapes the deformed metallic bar into separate bars.
