ABSTRACT:
A magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support having provided thereon at least one underlayer containing non-magnetic particles and a binder, and a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic particles and binder, in the order listed, the ferromagnetic particles being ferromagnetic iron oxide particles, cobalt-modified ferromagnetic iron oxide particles, or ferromagnetic alloy particles having an average long axis length of not more than 0.30 .mu.m measured by a transmission electron microscope and having a crystal size of not more than 300 .ANG. measured by X-ray diffractiometry.
