ABSTRACT:
This invention describes the preparation of reactive engineering thermoplastics containing arylcyclobutene groups pendant to an aromatic ring. The polymers are prepared by alkylation or acylation of an engineering thermoplastic which contains one or more aromatic groups capable of being alkylated or acylated with a suitable arylcyclobutene alkylating or acylating agent. The prepared reactive engineering thermoplastics containing pendant arylcyclobutene groups may be cross-linked and cured by heating above about 200.degree. C.
