ABSTRACT:
A switching circuit and method for transparently switching between two interrupt delivery mechanisms; namely a first interrupt circuit and a second interrupt circuit. The first interrupt circuit is adapted to service an interrupt request upon detecting that one of a plurality of interrupt request lines, referred to as "IRQ1 line" is asserted. Likewise, the second interrupt circuit is adapted to detect a second interrupt request through assertion of a second interrupt request "IRQ2" line. The switching circuit comprises a combinatorial logic unit, coupled to the IRQ1 and IRQ2 lines, for selectively (i) asserting the IRQ1 line upon detecting the second interrupt request, provided the second interrupt request requires interrupt service by the first interrupt circuit and (ii) deasserting the IRQ1 line upon detecting the second interrupt request if the second interrupt request propagating through the IRQ2 line does not require interrupt service by the first interrupt circuit.
