ABSTRACT:
Aluminosilicate optical glass without boron oxide, comprising 60-95 mols % silica and at least 2 mols alumina, the remainder being made up of at least one oxide of a metal selected from silver and thallium. The glass may also contain caesium. Optical waveguide preforms and methods of making the same are also disclosed.
