An coating apparatus comprises at least two coating bars along which a support member is conveyed in a running direction, wherein a center line mean roughness (Ra) on the edge at the downstream side of the downstream bar is not larger than 0.5 .mu.m and the maximum height (Rmax) on the edge is not larger than 6.0 .mu.m.
