ABSTRACT:
A magnetic recording medium providing excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics and durability in a still playback mode. The magnetic recording medium comprises a non-magnetic substrate and a multi-layer film formed on said non-magnetic substrate, the multi-layer film comprising an upper magnetic layer containing a magnetic powder and a binder resin as main components, wherein the binder resin in the upper magnetic layer has a glass transition temperature Tg(u) of about 60.degree. C. and comprises 1:1 mixture of a vinyl chloride copolymer and a polyurethane; and a lower non-magnetic layer containing a binder resin, wherein the binder resin in the lower non-magnetic layer has a glass transition temperature Tg(l) of about 35.degree. C. and comprises 1:1 mixture of a vinyl chloride copolymer and a polyurethane. The upper magnetic layer also contains about 1 to about 20% by weight, based on the weight of magnetic powder, of an abrasive having an average particle size greater than the thickness of the upper magnetic layer.
