A transmission control device for controlling a transmission having main and sub transmissions in accordance with the state of running of a vehicle.
The transmission control device having this constitution can control the main transmission on the basis of and in accordance with the transmission ratio of the sub transmission so as to optimize power efficiency, performance and fuel consumption in relation to the given ratio.
