The present invention relates to new substituted-phenyl substituted-alkyl ethers and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which have hypolipidemic activity, and to processes for the preparation thereof, the compound having the following formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, ar(lower)alkyl, a heterocyclic group or a group represented by the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each hydrogen or lower alkyl,
