ABSTRACT:
A method for the removal of thyroid or steroid hormones from whole human serum which comprises: contacting, at a pressure higher than 1 psi and pH of either 9.0-12.0 (thyroid hormones) or 4.0-6.0 (steroid hormones) the serum with a composite sheet, the composite sheet comprising a matrix of self-bonding fibers having interdispersed therein carbon particles, such that better than 90% of the carbon particles have an average diameter less than about 50 microns; and recovering a whole human serum having substantially undetectable amounts of hormones.
