A new process for the preparation of 1-fluorocyclopropyl methyl ketone of the formula ##STR1## which process comprises a) in a first step, reacting 2-acetyl-2-chloro-4-butanolide of the formula ##STR2## with an addition product of triethylamine and hydrogen fluoride of the formula
