ABSTRACT:
A method for in vivo reducing the deleterious effect of traumatic CNS tissue injury by applying to said tissue a therapeutically effective amount of a metabotropic glutamate receptor agonist, preferably, trans-1-amino-1,3-cyclopentanedicarboxylic acid. The metabotropic glutamate receptor agonist activates a mGluR subtype, for example the mGluR-1.alpha. subtype.
