ABSTRACT:
A proces for the preparation of 2,5-dihydrofurans of the general formula I ##STR1## in which the radicals R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, and R.sup.6 are the same or different and stand for hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl groups, by the catalytic rearrangement of 3,4-epoxy-1-butenes of the general formula II ##STR2## in the presence of a Lewis acid or elementary iodine and in the presence or absence of an organic solubilizing agent at a temperature of from 60.degree. to 200.degree. C., wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of a phosphazenium halide or a phosphazanium halide or in the presence of mixtures of phosphazenium and phosphazanium halides.
