ABSTRACT:
A novel silver halide photographic material is provided comprising a support and at least one silver halide photographic emulsion layer formed thereon and containing in said photographic emulsion layer or at least one hydrophilic colloid layer a compound represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic residual group, an aromatic residual group, or a heterocyclic residual group; R.sup.3 represents a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic residual group; L.sub.1 represents a divalent aliphatic group, a divalent aromatic group, or a divalent heterocyclic group; L.sub.2 represents --O--, --CONR--, --NRCO--, --SO.sub.2 NR--, --NRSO.sub.2 --, --OCO--, --COO--, --S--, --NR--, --CO--, --SO--, --SO.sub.2 --, --OCOO--, --NRCONR'--, --NRCOO--, --OCONR--, or --NRSO.sub.2 NR'-- (in which R and R' each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group); l and m each represents an integer of 1 or 2; n represents an integer of 0 or 1; and A represents a residual group which is obtained by removing hydrogen atoms from Ar or B in a compound represented by formula (II), provided that when m=1, one hydrogen atom is removed; when m=2, two hydrogen atoms are removed: ##STR2## wherein Ar represents an aryl group; B represents a formyl group, an acyl group, an alkyl or arylsulfonyl group, an alkyl or arylsulfinyl group, a carbamoyl group, a sulfamoyl group, an alkoxy or aryloxycarbonyl group, a sulfinamoyl group, an alkoxysulfonyl group, a thioacyl group, a thiocarbamoyl group, or a heterocyclic group; and R.sub.0 and R.sub.00 each represents a hydrogen atom or one of R.sub.0 and R.sub.00 represents a hydrogen atom and the other represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkylsulfonyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted arylsulfonyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted acyl group, with the proviso that B, R.sub.00 and the nitrogen atom to which B and R.sub.00 are bonded may together form a partial structure of hydrazone (--N.dbd.C<).
