ABSTRACT:
A thermal/vacuum drying method is provided and comprises the steps of sandwiching a part of a wet web of material with a porous web between a pair of moving heat conductive layers, heating the layer adjacent the wet web, cooling the layer adjacent the porous web to thereby cause the particles of liquid of the wet web to be vaporized by the heated layer and be condensed back to particles of liquid by the cooled layer while the layers and the webs are moving together in a sandwiched relation, and imposing an electrostatic field at least through part of the moving sandwich of the webs by charging at least one of the layers to augment the thermal/vacuum drying of the wet web while the part of the sandwich is disposed between the layers.
