ABSTRACT:
1,1,1,4,4,4-Hexafluorobutane is prepared by first reacting 1,1,3,4,4-pentachlorobuta-1,3-diene with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of catalysts at 60.degree. to 180.degree. C. to give 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-chlorobutane, and converting this to 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutane. On working up the product of the first stage of the process, it is possible to isolate novel compounds of formula (I):
