20,798 R.P., which has valuable anti-tumor properties, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by the microbiological reduction of daunorubicin of the formula: ##SPC1##
Or of an acid addition salt thereof, to convert the grouping --CO--CH.sub.3 to --CHOHCH.sub.3.
