ABSTRACT:
Hydrogen and carbon monoxide are produced from coal, char or other carbonaceous material in a processing combination comprising a catalytic CO generator employing as reactant materials, fluid carbon material and CO.sub.2 product of the reaction of steam with CO to produce hydrogen and CO.sub.2. CO.sub.2 produced in the process is relied upon as the primary endothermic heat source in the fluid CO generator.
