ABSTRACT:
A colored article comprises a workpiece having a surface producing a color by light interference. The surface is defined by forming a reflective surface and coating the reflective surface with a composite layer of SiC and SiO.sub.2 having an SiO.sub.2 ingredient ratio of 5 to 80% by weight and a thickness of 200 to 3000 .ANG. or with a composite layer of Si.sub.3 N.sub.4 and SiO.sub.2 having an SiO.sub.2 ingredient ratio of 5 to 80% by weight and a thickness of 400 to 4000 .ANG..
