ABSTRACT:
A multiple-sided, parallelepiped enclosure has a base at one side for supporting a laser diode, a planar member at another side, a circuit board overlying the base at still another side, and an opening at yet a further side of the enclosure. The diode emits a laser beam through the opening to a bar code symbol. Light reflected off the symbol is detected by a photodiode over a field of view. A scanning component scans the laser beam and/or the field of view in a compact optical scanning module for reading symbols.
