ABSTRACT:
2-Phenylsemicarbazides of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are hydrocarbyl, X is hydrogen or halogen and X.sub.1 is halogen, alkyl or alkoxy optionally substituted by halogen, useful as herbicides, are prepared by treatment of the appropriately substituted 2-phenylsemicarbazone with an aqueous acid followed by treatment with a base and optionally further an alkylating or acylating agent.
