ABSTRACT:
Unsaturated nitriles are prepared from lactones and NH.sub.3 by a process in which the reaction of the lactone with NH.sub.3 is carried out in the presence of a zeolite as a catalyst.
A particularly suitable starting material is caprolactone and particularly suitable catalysts are zeolites of the pentasil type, for example aluminosilicate zeolites.
