ABSTRACT:
Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein Y is halogen; R is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, cyano, aralkyl, alkanoyl, aralkanoyl, hydroxyalkyl, benzoylalkyl, ##STR2## where p is an integer of 2 or 3; and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and are hydrogen and lower alkyl; X is hydrogen and alkyl; Hal is a halogen; q is an integer of 0 or 1; m is an integer of 1 or 2 and n is an integer of 1, 2 or 3, where the sum of m and n is 3 or 4; and a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, are provided. The compounds are useful intermediates in the preparation of Spiro[dihydrobenzofuran-piperidines and pyrrolidines], which are useful agents for relieving pain and for lowering blood pressure.
