A copolymer of N-vinyl pyrrolidone and a vinylic, allylic or methallylic ester of a cyclic .alpha.- or .beta.-carboxylic acid is employed as a cosmetic film forming resin in cosmetic compositions for the hair, including hair setting lotions and lacquers, hair rinses and shampoos.
