ABSTRACT:
A padded packaging sheet for guarding against rust and corrosion, incorporates a coating of volatile corrosion inhibitor (VCI) on a pliable layer of a sealed cell micro-porous foam. The VCI can be incorporated in a cohesive non-adhesive coating on the micro-porous layer or directly on the micro-porous layer in the absence of such cohesive coating. The effectiveness of the VCI can be further enhanced by incorporating in the padded sheet a vapor barrier such as for example, aluminum foil or a film of hydrophobic polymer such as a silicone or a polyester such as Mylar (polyethylene terephthalate). A water-repellent layer can also be added. The sheet can be made anti-static and/or opaque, and strengthened with fibers that make it almost impossible to tear.
