ABSTRACT:
Biphenyl compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which the substituents have the meanings given in the description,
are obtained by amidomethylation of the corresponding starting compounds and, if appropriate, subsequent sulphonation. The new compounds are used, for example, for the preparation of dyestuff precursors, dyestuffs, plastics and medicaments.
