ABSTRACT:
Oxygenated decaline derivatives of formula ##STR1## wherein X represents a COOH or a CHO group are obtained according to a process which consists in the oxidation of a ketone of formula ##STR2## by means of oxygen in a basic medium constituted by potassium tert-butoxide in 1,2-dimethoxyethane.
Compounds (I) are useful starting materials for the preparation of AMBROX.RTM. (registered tradename of Firmenich SA, Geneva, Switzerland) which is an ingredient in perfumes.
