ABSTRACT:
A novel composition and process are provided for cleaning metallic steel surfaces. The aqueous cleaning composition comprises effective amounts of a metal hydroxide, a water soluble surfactant and at least one sulfur containing compound selected from the group consisting of a thioalkanoic compound or a dithiobis (alkanoic) compound.
