The invention provides a novel process for the preparation of glycidyl polyethers of polyphenols. The process comprises reacting at least one alkali metal salt of a polyphenol with at least one 2,3-epoxy-1-haloalkane in an anhydrous and essentially aprotic medium, in the presence of a compound of the formula
