Processes for the preparation of bisphenols from phenols and substituted vicinal glycols, or unsaturated alcohols or substituted dienes resulting in bisphenols represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from monovalent hydrocarbon and monovalent hydrocarbonoxy radicals of one to four carbon atoms, or from halogen radicals;
